Lisa has been teaching English since she
graduated from Durham University at the end
of the 80s. She is Cambridge Certificate and
Diploma qualified.
In Barcelona she has taught in several
universities and was until recently Head of
Department at a private business
university. Lisa moved into teacher training
a (good) few years ago and took over as
Director of TEFL International
Barcelona in 2005. She likes to
think she runs the centre with a firm but
gentle hand, is obsessed with Humanistic
ideals and is famously easy to win over with
tea and dark chocolate! When not in the
school (and she virtually lives there..)
Lisa enjoys being outside in the countryside
or on the beach, spending time with her
family and cats, reading and painting.
Jamie Cruickshank (Teacher Trainer)
Originally from Folkestone, England, Jamie
was travelling from 1999 to places such as
Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Indonesia
following his passion for the surf until
settling in Barcelona in 2001. He took his
TEFL certificate in 2001 and is now a
Trinity Diploma qualified teacher and
Cambridge oral examiner.
Jane Kirsch (Teacher Trainer)
Jane is originally from the south of
England and worked in magazine publishing
and marketing in London before moving to
Barcelona. She has 8 years English
teaching experience, and has worked as a
teacher trainer since completing the
Trinity Diploma in 2005. Jane is currently
studying for a PhD in Education at the
University of Nottingham, specialising in
CLIL (Content Language Integrated
Learning). In her free time she loves
snowboarding and cheering on her favourite
Barcelona football team, RCD Español.
Alex Sankey (Teacher Trainer)
Alex is originally from the Shropshire
countryside but has lived in Barcelona
since graduating from university. She
first started teaching in 2003 and since
then has been involved in both the
teaching and management side of EFL, as
well as finding time to do her diploma in
2008. In her free time she enjoys skiing,
going to the beach, reading and walking
her dog.
Jen Whelan (Career Guidance Tutor)
After moving from Milwaukee to Barcelona
and taking a TEFL course in 2006, Jen
began teaching English in Barcelona. About
the same time, she started the Barcelona
TEFL Teachers Association, a social
networking group for new and experienced
teachers alike. She has been a TEFL
instructor for just over a year and
specialises in job guidance and teaching
young learners. When not teaching or
planning BTTA events, you can find her
riding her pink bike around town or
searching for the best baking ingredients.
